Chemical Peeling
Chemical peeling is a procedure that utilises a chemical solution
(usually fruit acids or other acids) in different strengths to cause an
interruption/peeling of the surface layers of the skin thus improving and
smoothening the texture of the facial skin. It is helpful for those
individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles acne and uneven skin pigmentation.
Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for
this purpose. The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's
needs. Although chemical peel may be performed in conjunction with a facelift,
it is not a substitute for such surgery, nor will it prevent or slow the aging
process. Chemical peel is most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons -- to
enhance your appearance and your self confidence. Chemical peel may also
remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars and even control
acne. In our clinic we offer 2 main types of peels: 1) TCA peels (this
is a stronger peel with an average of 1 week of down time of peeling skin) 2) Glycolic
acid peels: this is a light peel and often called a "lunchtime peel".
There is usually some reddness after the peel and you may return to work
straight away.
