GLY DERM IS AN ADVANCED FORMULATION OF GLYCOLIC ACID
It has been know for years that glycolic acid can improve skin wrinkling, dryness, roughness, flaking, scaling, and elasticity. However, most people find plain glycolic acid, particularly at higher concentrations, to be very irritating when applied to skin.
GLY DERM glycolic acid is esterified, a process that combines glycolic acid with fruit alcohols. This produces gentle esters, which maintain their full strength but are much less irritating to skin. While beauticians may use lower strength glycolic acid peels (up to 30% concentration), doctors may use up to 70% glycolic acid peels to achieve a deeper level peel for more effective results.
How is the peel performed?
After the skin is washed with a glycolic acid cleanser to remove the grease, oils and make-up particles on the skin, a layer of glycolic acid is swabed onto the facial skin. You will experience some stinging & tingling sensation on the face. Your skin is watched for changes and reaction at all times. At the end of 3 to 5 minutes, your skin is neutralised to end the peel.
Your skin may look a little red in certain areas and sometimes slight swelling is present in certain individuals. You can normally return to work straight away, that's why this peel is called a "lunch time peel". A series of 6 weekly peels are usually performed or sometimes alternated with microdermabrasion. Most patients get it done once a month thereafter for maintainence of the soft glowing skin.
