Laser and light based treatments
IPL Photoepilation (Hair Removal)
IPL is the first photoepilation technology proven to treat unwanted hair safely on any skin type- from very light to very dark skin. It offers a gentle, non-invasive, long lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line or any other body area.
Unwanted or excessive hair is a problem that has been affecting people since early times, regardless of age, gender or origin. Each year, over $10 billion are spent on removing unwanted hair utilizing mostly methods that provide short-term or partial results. The most common and affordable methods of hair removal have traditionally been shaving, depilatory creams, waxing and electrolysis –performed either at home or in beauty centers.
Over the last decade, laser and light based technologies administered by professionals entered the market, setting new standards for hair removal treatment. Although shown to be highly effective in long-term or reduction of hair, these methods are costly –therefore available only to the few able to afford them. Consumers still face the dilemma of choosing between expensive hair removal treatments with long-term results or opting for more affordable removal methods with short-term results. Until now.
What happens during a treatment?
The hair above the skin is trimmed away. You may be asked to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. Next, a cold gel is spread over the treatment area. The IPL handpiece is applied to your skin and pulses of light begin disabling your unwanted hair. When the gel is removed, much of the hair if wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area will progressively fall out over a two-week period.
How IPL Photoepillation Works
IPLworks on the principle of selective photothermalysis but uniquely utilizes broad spectrum pulsed Light tomum efficiency. The energy level is adjusted prior to the treatment based on the skin type and hair color to ensure maximum safety and efficacy of the epidermis-dermis matrix. Flashes of broad-spectrum light and from the IPL handpiece sare applied to the target area. . The light selectively targets the melanin in the hair, elevating the temperature of the hair follicle. Heat energy from the LUA is deposited into the skin and conducted down the hair shaft, which further increases the hair follicle temperature needed to coagulate the hair bulge and hair bulb.
The combined energy of the light and heat results in subsequent destruction of the hair follicle. A natural process eliminates the destroyed hair. The result is long-term hair removal for hair-free skin.
Can all hair be treated and is IPL safe for all skin types?
Any hair with at least some pigment in it [black, brown, red and even blond] can be treated effectively. IPL is the first photoepilation procedure proven to effectively treat unwanted hair on all skin types, including dark-skinned individuals such as those with Black, Hispanic and Asian descent.
Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. Slight redding or local swelling at the treatment site may be experienced, but this typically goes away within hours. On rare occasions, some blistering or bruising may occur, but typically resolves quickly. Following the treatment, you can generally return to work and resume all regular activities immediately.
What results should I expect?
IPL technology has proven to create a permanent reduction in the number of regrowing hairs following each treatment in most skin types. A customized treatment program will be designed for you along with an estimate of how many treatments you may need in order to meet your expectations.
